Girolamo Benzoni, 1519-1570, was born in Milan. He set forth at the age of twenty-two to travel in America, and is reputed to be one of the first to travel for the sole purpose of gratifying his curiosity. On his return to Italy he wrote this account of his adventures, and published the first edition in Venice in 1565. The work was
