Bound in calf, gilt ornaments and morocco labels on the back; with the Library of Congress 1815 bookplate.

Charles Bellini, ?1732-1804, Italian scholar and a close friend of Jefferson, was for many years Professor of Modern Languages at William and Mary College.

Jefferson bought a copy of this work from Froullé on September 24, 1787, price 5.10 (livres). The copy entered on his undated manuscript catalogue is priced 4.5.

Bound in English red morocco, gilt borders, gilt ornaments and morocco labels on the back.
The authorship of the French original from which this was translated is disputed, and is now usually attributed to Holbach. Jefferson ascribed it to Boulanger as above, and also in his references to the printed French original, of which he owned a copy which was not sold to Congress in 1815. The printed book was bought from Froullé on September 24, 1787, price 5, and is entered in both the dated and undated manuscript catalogues as par Boulanger, in the latter with the price 6.5.
