Henry Home, Lord Kames, 1696-1782, Scottish judge. The first edition of this book was printed in Edinburgh in 1761. Several of his works, agricultural,
philosophical and legal, appear in this catalogue.

Jefferson also had copies of the translation into French by DeBordes, sent to him by the translator. In writing to thank him
on July 7, 1807, Jefferson mentioned that “
this elegant little morsel of morality has always been a great favorite of mine.”
The Oeconomy of Human Life, first published in 1751 and frequently reprinted, is ascribed to Robert Dodsley, 1703-1764, English poet, dramatist, and
bookseller, and to Philip Dormer Stanhope, fourth Earl of Chesterfield, 1694-1773.
