Sir Geoffrey Gilbert, 1674-1726, English judge, was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1692 and called to the bar in 1698. In 1722 he took the degree
of serjeant-at-law. He was knighted in 1725 after the resignation of Lord Macclesfield and became a commissioner for the custody
of the Great Seal; shortly afterwards he was appointed lord chief baron of the exchequer.
