. Letters to the E. of Hillsborough. [ed. Sowerby ignores this listing, noting it as "Entry cancelled" though she transcribed the short title from the Great Library MS, assigned it the designation " J. 303." She then referenced a bound collection that includes such letters, Sowerby #3074. She evidently believed that TJ owned only one such work. However, she offers no evidence to rule out other possibilities, such as, TJ’s ownership of the work by 1783 and then subsequently binding them with other tracts or short works, or the possibility that TJ owned multiple copies. Though the first possibility may seem the most plausible, the work that Sowerby referenced, her #3074, was listed in the MS by 1783, probably at the same time as this listing was made. Thus, that listing (specifically Great Library page 149, work 37) referenced at least a partial set of bound tracts in TJ’s library as of 1783. The range of years and number of volumes that were originally recorded have been erased and written over. So, it is likely that TJ added to the initial collection of these tracts. Yet, the letters to Hillsborough are at the beginning of the first volume. It is the conclusion of the editor, therefore, that as of 1783 TJ owned two copies of this work, only one of which was sold to Congress (the work bound in the 10 volume set).]

. Great Britain v. America. tracts. 1765-1781. 10.v. 8 vo . [ed. it is uncertain if all of these volumes were owned as of 1783 as the range of years and number of volumes was subsequently altered in a dark black ink.]
. Journals of Congress to its [. . .] with dupl. of some parts. [ed. Evidence indicates that TJ owned at least some of this set by 1783. The illegible part of this entry was erased and the words "its dissoln Oct. 88." written over the erasure. Thus, TJ altered the original short title to include volumes published and acquired after the initial listing that was made by 1783.]
